An Ashville man was arrested late Saturday on numerous charges after deputies say he fled following a traffic stop and was later tracked to his home, according to the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident started at 9:30 p.m. Saturday on South Maple Avenue when deputies tried to pull over a vehicle with one of its tail lights out. The driver made several sharp turns to try to get away before he pulled into a driveway and ran from the vehicle.
The passenger was questioned but provided only the driver’s first name. Deputies and members of the Lakewood-Busti police determined the driver was Mark A. West, 32, and they found West at his home.
Police and deputies charged West with possession of marijuana, violating an order of protection and a long list of traffic charges that included aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, failure to comply with a police order and insufficient tail lights.
West was arraigned in Busti Town Court and sent to the Chautauqua County Jail on $20,000 bail for the criminal charges. He will be arraigned later in North Harmony Town Court on the traffic violations.
