LOCKPORT – David J. Grover, the Town of Tonawanda man accused of taking a 5-year-old girl from her North Tonawanda home July 28 and sexually abusing her, rejected a plea bargain Thursday in Niagara County Court.

Grover, 34, was asked to plead guilty to kidnapping as a sexually motivated felony. If he were convicted of that at trial, the maximum penalty would be 25 years in prison, but Assistant Public Defender Michele G. Bergevin was looking for something shorter.

Asked if a sentencing commitment was offered, Bergevin said, “None that was acceptable.”

Assistant District Attorney Robert A. Zucco said the plea offer is off the table and no further court appearances are planned before Grover’s trial, which has been rescheduled for Feb. 4.
