LOCKPORT – A second man pleaded guilty Monday in connection with an attempt at an armed robbery Jan. 23 at a Niagara Falls check-cashing store.

Marcus D. Hamilton Jr., 22, of North Avenue in the Falls, admitted to attempted second-degree robbery and fourth-degree grand larceny. Those are the same charges admitted to Feb. 24 by his co-defendant, Cortez M. McClain, 21, of Cleveland Avenue. Hamilton is to be sentenced April 28 by Niagara County Judge Matthew J. Murphy III; that’s a week after McClain’s scheduled sentencing.

The men stole a Toyota minivan whose owner left it running on Pine Avenue and they drove it to Universal Check Cashing, 740 Portage Road. The clerk refused to give up money even though McClain had a gun, so the robbers fled and crashed the van into a parked car while trying to escape, police said.
