LOCKPORT – A man who allegedly caused serious injuries to two Lockport policemen during a Jan. 5 rampage in the Lockview Plaza restaurant pleaded not guilty Tuesday in Niagara County Court.
Allan T. Spedding, 37, of Main Street, Lockport, was indicted on two counts of second-degree assault along with second-degree obstructing governmental administration, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.
Police Chief Lawrence M. Eggert said Officers Michael Wasik and Michael Stover were hurt in subduing Spedding. Eggert said one of the officers underwent knee surgery and the other suffered a back injury. He said Stover recently returned to work and Wasik is still off work.
Assistant Public Defender Michael E. Benedict said Spedding has no prior police record and blamed the incident on a reaction to Spedding’s diabetes medicine. A police report read aloud by County Judge Sara Sheldon Farkas called Spedding “out of control” and said he was trying to push a glass display case over.
“If you look at the video, it was a pretty violent struggle,” Eggert said.
