NIAGARA FALLS – A smashed window prompted police to respond to an alarm at Lotus Farms at just after midnight Monday in the 1500 block of Main Street. When police arrived they spotted a man in black crouched down behind a row of bushes.
The suspect, Jonathan J. Nichelson, 18, no permanent address, was ordered to come out with his hands in the air; however Nichelson fled, leading police on a foot chase along Willow Avenue.
According to police Nichelson tripped over a snow bank at Eighth Street and Willow Avenue and was taken into custody without further resistance.
Nichelson was charged with third-degree attempted burglary, possession of burglary tools, third-degree criminal mischief and resisting arrest.
Police said Nichelson admitted he had smashed the window at Lotus Farms and had left a crow bar in the bushes. Officers found the crow bar in a black bag in the bushes near where Nichelson had been hiding and also found wires and wire cutters on the west side of the building.
