LOCKPORT – Former Buffalo and Lewiston restaurateur Filippo Inglima is to be sentenced Feb. 19 to a year in jail for sexually abusing a 13-year-old girl in 2004, but he won’t be in Niagara County Court that day.

Inglima agreed Wednesday to be sentenced in absentia, because, according to defense attorney Andrew C. LoTempio, Inglima must surrender to federal authorities Feb. 13 to begin a prison sentence of 10 years and a month for cocaine and marijuana dealing, imposed in December by U.S. District Judge Richard J. Arcara.

Inglima, 46, of Wheatfield, agreed Wednesday to allow County Judge Sara Sheldon Farkas to sentence him without making authorities go to the expense of bringing him back to Lockport from federal custody. Farkas told Inglima what the sentence will be, although by law, it couldn’t run concurrently with the federal term if it were officially imposed before he went into federal custody.

After he serves his time, Inglima is to be deported to his native Italy.
