The Tops Markets gas station at 1740 Sheridan Drive in the Town of Tonawanda was robbed Sunday evening by a knife-wielding man, according to police.
The man forced his way into the clerk’s kiosk around 6:40 p.m., brandished a knife and demanded cash from the employee, who was not injured, police said.
The suspect fled north on Delaware Road on foot with an undetermined amount of cash, police said. Minutes after the robbery, police in the City of Tonawanda gave chase to a white Dodge Charger speeding north on Delaware Street. The vehicle may have had out-of-state plates, possibly from California, police said.
The vehicle was able to elude police in North Tonawanda, but authorities said it was unclear if that incident was related to the robbery.
The robbery suspect was described as a white male in his mid-20s with a “chubby” or “full” face and a mustache. The man was 6 feet tall and weighed approximately 200 pounds. He was wearing a gray, zip-hooded sweatshirt, a blue and white shirt underneath and black sneakers.
Town police detectives are reviewing video and ask anyone with information to call 879-6613 or the confidential tip line at 879-6606.
