Fire causes $60,000 damage at West Side house

Working in 7-degree temperature, Buffalo firefighters quickly doused a fire that broke out about 9 p.m. Monday in a two-family house at 154 W. Delavan Ave.

The occupants escaped without injury, but damage to the 2 1/2 story house and its contents was estimated at $60,000. The fire is believed to have started in a second-floor kitchen.

Police detoured traffic in the West Delavan-Herkimer Street area while crews were battling the flames.
