Elma man arrested on drug-trafficking charges

A 29-year-old Elma man was arrested early Friday afternoon on drug trafficking-related charges, the Erie County Sheriff’s Office reported.

Mark J. Carney of Seneca Street was arrested at his home about 1:17 p.m. for allegedly having recently sold a quantity of morphine pills to an undercover sheriff’s deputy.

Senior Detective Alan Rozansky, head of the sheriff’s Narcotics Unit, said a quantity of fentanyl patches were seized that as a result of a search warrant issued by Elma Town Justice Joseph Sakowski for Carney’s house and car. A loaded 22-caliber loaded rifle also was found in the house, which may in further charges against him, Rozansky said.

Carney was charged with two counts each of criminal sale of narcotic drugs and criminal possession of narcotic drugs with intent to sell.
