An Andover Avenue woman allegedly killed by her abusive husband last Monday died of blunt-force trauma, Buffalo police spokesman Michael J. DeGeorge said.

Nedra E. Thomas-Mattox, 38, a mother of three, was attacked by her husband, Antoine D. Mattox, who was arrested in Rochester, DeGeorge said.

According to a Buffalo police arrest and booking form obtained by The Buffalo News, Mattox is accused of killing his wife of 10 years “by beating her with his fists, kicking her and beating her with an iron.”

Currently awaiting grand jury action, Mattox, 32, was arrested by Rochester police at a bus terminal last Monday after Buffalo police put out an all-points bulletin seeking his arrest.

Police Commissioner Daniel Derenda said last week that Mattox was seen fleeing from the couple’s home at about 1:30 p.m. Monday.

Derenda and Dennis J. Richards, Buffalo chief of detectives, said Mattox was believed to have been on his way to Virginia when the bus he apparently boarded in Buffalo in the midafternoon Monday stopped in Rochester to pick up other passengers.

Thomas-Mattox, police said, had a history of being the victim of domestic violence.

The Mattoxes’ landlord found her body in a rear bedroom in the city’s Bailey-Kensington neighborhood.

Richards said investigators are still putting together the events that led the death.
