NIAGARA FALLS – A man was spotted early Saturday evening walking onto the ice and into the Niagara River near the brink of Horseshoe Falls.
Niagara State Park Police are still searching for the man but believe he was trying to commit suicide.
The man left behind personal belongings, including a driver’s license, before walking from Goat Island into the river.
Police said several eyewitnesses saw the man jump over a fence and walk onto the ice and into the river at about 6 p.m. The man’s identity was not released.
