A 19-year-old man from Friendship in Cattaraugus County was sentenced Tuesday to six months in jail for a burglary in Portville, and two other men were placed on probation in separate burglary cases.
Cattaraugus County Court Judge Ronald D. Ploetz sentenced Alexander J. Hope to the six-month jail term and up to five years probation and ordered him to make restitution for a burglary worth thousdands of dollars at a Portville business last June 9. Convicted of third-degree attempted burglary in the case, Hope is being held in the Cattaraugus County Jail.
In another burglary case, Ploetz ordered Kyle S. King, 22, of Gowanda, to pay a $1,000 fine and serve five years of probation on his conviction on charges of burglary and criminal mischief for breaking into a Town of Persia bar twice on Jan. 12, 2012, first at about 12:30 a.m. and again about 6:30 a.m. when he was arrested in the bar by a town police officer on routine patrol.
Arturo D. Ross, Sr., 40, of Olean, was sentenced to five years of probation and ordered to make restitution for his third-degree burglary conviction for a break-in last Aug. 3 at an Olean business.
In other court action on Tuesday:
• Billie J. Damerst, 38, of Allentown, waived grand jury action and pleaded guilty to second-degree forgery and petit larceny for altering a check made out to another person that she tried to cash last May 24 in the Town of Carrollton. She faces sentencing June 17.
• Joseph M. Phillips, 23, of Olean, waived indictment and pleaded guilty to attempted fourth-degree grand larceny for attempting to steal property worth more than $1,000 from a Town of Allegany business last Oct. 28. He faces sentencing May 6 on that charge and for a probation violation because he was on probation for an earlier incident then, according to District Attorney Lori Pettit Rieman.
