A 50-year-old woman admitted last week that she stole purses from five shoppers at the Wegmans on Amherst Street.
Charlene McBride, whose last known address is in Buffalo, pleaded guilty to four counts of fourth-degree grand larceny and a single count of petit larceny, according to the Erie County District Attorney’s Office.
McBride waited for the customers to leave their shopping carts unattended and then took their purses, prosecutors said.
McBride told police she repeatedly stole the purses because of an abusive boyfriend, according to District Attorney’s Office.
She faces a maximum prison sentence of five and a third to 16 years when sentenced May 24 by State Supreme Court Justice M. William Boller.
