A current University at Buffalo wrestler and a former teammate were arrested early today in connection with the beating of a man at Main and Heath streets, Northeast District police reported. Justin L. Lozano, 20, of Selma, Calif., whose local home is on Callodine Avenue, and former UB wrestler Clayton J. Reeb, 22, of North Rushford Lane, Cheektowaga, were arrested at 3 a.m. and charged with second-degree assault and first-degree loitering in connection with the beating of Joshua Rubin, no age available.
Rubin told Northeast District police he was knocked unconscious and had his face cut open when Reeb and Lozano jumped him after following him and some of his friends down the street, taunting them, between 2:30 and 2:45 a.m. Saturday. Rubin was released after treatment in Erie County Medical Center.
Joe Kepler, UB assistant director of athletic communications, said Reeb, a junior who wrestled in the 149-pound class, left the team in December, with no reason publicly disclosed. Lozano, a sophomore, competes in the 174- and 184-pound divisions. Kepler said the team’s coaches will assess the situation before deciding on any action.
