LOCKPORT – A City of Tonawanda man avoided jail time Tuesday in Niagara County Court in connection with two sex crimes involving the same 16-year-old girl, which occurred in North Tonawanda in July and September 2010.
Robert F. Becker, 30, of King Street, had pleaded guilty last May to reduced charges of attempted third-degree rape and attempted third-degree criminal sexual act. He could have received up to two years in jail or six years’ probation, but Niagara County Judge Sara Sheldon Farkas gave him a three-year conditional discharge, the conditions being that he avoid Internet access, pornography and contact with anyone under age 18, except for his fiancée’s 3-year-old child. He also was rated a Level 1 sex offender, the least serious category.
Defense attorney Scott Riordan said Becker has completed sex offender counseling and successfully compiled with all terms of interim probation, which Farkas imposed Aug. 29.
