A Casey Middle School art teacher caught on surveillance video kissing a student in a school storage room pleaded guilty to endangering the welfare of a child in Amherst Town Court, District Attorney Frank A. Sedita III said.

Donna Sleap, 49, will be sentenced in July for the misdemeanor charge stemming from a video that showed her kissing a 13-year-old boy on the mouth in an art supply room in December, Sedita said.

The district attorney said a surveillance camera was installed in the supply room because the school district suspected she was “inappropriately amorous.”

Details about Sleap’s guilty plea were not available Thursday when the Williamsville Central School District reported she had resigned.

Sedita also clarified that Sleap pleaded guilty as charged and that his office did not offer her a plea deal, as the school district had reported Thursday.

Sleap relinquished her state teaching certificate and resigned from her position as art teacher as part of her guilty plea, Sedita said.

“She can’t ever be a teacher again,” Sedita said.

Sleap was placed on administrative leave in December and arrested in January.

School administrators have said they began an internal investigation in the fall and notified the Amherst Police Department and the state Department of Education after school staff members told them about concerns over Sleap’s behavior.
