LOCKPORT – A North Tonawanda man who reportedly shouted a racial slur out the window of his pickup truck at least twice on the night of his arrest for drunken driving was sentenced Tuesday to a year in Niagara County Jail by County Judge Matthew J. Murphy III.
Ryan T. Allgrim, 31, of Robinson Street, also must pay $1,570 in fines and fees and use an ignition interlock device after his release.
He had pleaded guilty to felony driving while intoxicated after his Sept. 16 arrest on Falconer Street, where police summoned to deal with the harassment complaint saw him leaving the truck. Allgrim’s blood alcohol content was measured at 0.28 percent.
Murphy said a report from a probation officer told him Allgrim slurred a black woman and later a black man. Allgrim answered, “I don’t know much of the incident.”
“I think you’re lying,” Murphy said. “I think even you realize how evil and ugly that was.” Murphy said he imposed a jail term despite a recommendation of probation not only because of the slurs but because of the high blood alcohol reading and Allgrim’s alleged lies to the probation officer.
