Police arrested a suspected robber armed with a BB gun late Monday in Black Rock-Riverside after a man driving by witnessed the mugging and came to the aid of the victim, according to Buffalo police.
A West Delevan Avenue man was walking near Military Avenue and Grote Street shortly after 11 p.m. when he was attacked from behind by two males who punched him to the ground and stomped him, police said.
As one of the assailants pulled a gun and took the man’s cellphone, headphones and baseball cap, police reported, a vehicle pulled up, prompting the thieves to flee west on Austin Street.
The driver of the vehicle put the victim in his car and followed one of the two thieves to Military Road and Clay Street.
Javarius L. Bumpers, 24, of no permanent address was arrested by police on the scene after he was identified by the victim, who suffered from injuries to his head, left ear and arm. Police recovered a blood-marked BB gun from the suspect.
