A fire Sunday night in Clarence Center has claimed a second life.

Denise Hackrott, 51, of Clarence Center died Monday at Erie County Medical Center from injuries sustained during the fire at 5961 Goodrich Road, according to State Police.

The fire, which broke out around 8:45 p.m., already had claimed the life of Charles Deppa, 45, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Both victims were found unconscious and on the floor of a second-floor apartment.

Witnesses first reported seeing the fire in the second floor of the structure, which had housed a small consignment shop on the first floor.

The State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation determined the fire was sparked by an unattended stove. The cause has been ruled accidental. Damage was estimated at $80,000 to the building and $50,000 to its contents.

The Clarence Center Volunteer Fire Company was assisted by the Clarence, Main Transit, Harris Hill, Newstead, Swormville and Getzville companies.
