Erie County deputies went to a house on Grand Island Monday after getting a report of a woman being assaulted, but when they got there, they said they discovered a marijuana-growing operation.
Deputies said they saw several marijuana plants growing inside a house on Huth Road. The sheriff’s Narcotics Unit also was called to the scene.
Matthew J. Lazzaro, 33, was charged with a felony count of criminal possession of marijuana, as well as unlawful growing of cannabis.
“Every room of that house had some kind of marijuana,” Senior Detective Alan Rozansky said. It’s believed Lazzro was growing it primarily for his own use, the detective said.
After obtaining a search warrant from Town Justice Mark Frentzel, approximately 250 plants and a large quantity of marijuana that had been previously harvested were seized, deputies reported.
Lazzaro was taken to the county Holding Center. No further information was released about the alleged assault.
