MAYVILLE – A 23-year-old Town of Ripley man was being held in the Chautauqua County Jail here on a State of Pennsylvania probation violation warrant and for allegedly operating a portable methamphetamine lab in this county, according to the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s officials.
Deputies confronted John M. Gibbs II as he sat in a parked car near his Wisner Street home about 8:30 p.m. Friday when he allegedly tried to strike one of the sheriff’s deputies who was questioning him. He tried to flee, and after a short chase, deptuies stopped him with a Taser shot.
In his vehicle, deputies reported finding a portable meth lab and confirmed Gibbs was wanted in Pennsylvania on a probation violation.
After he was treated Friday night at the Westfield Memorial Hospitals for minor injuries suffered in his capture, Gibbs was charged with felony unlawful manufacture of methamphetamine, criminal possession of meth manufacturing materials, criminal possession of a controlled substance, resisting arrest, obstructing governmental administration and unlawful possession of marijuana.
He was jailed without bail in the fugitive warrant case and faced $17,000 bail on the meth and pot charges.
