Damage was estimated at half a million dollars after a fire Sunday afternoon in the offices of Orkin Pest Control in the Amherst Inducon Park Business Development at Earhart and Wehrle drives.
The blaze was discovered at 4:54 p.m. by an Amherst police officer who answered a motion detector call in the offices. Main-Transit firefighters kept the flames from spreading to Orkin’s chemical storage area.
Main-Transit Fire Chief James Lawida estimated damage at $150,000 to the structure, $300,000 to Orkin’s offices and $25,000 each to two adjoining office suites, which sustained smoke damage. Lawida said there were no smoke or fire detection systems in the building and no fire suppression system.
