TOWN OF LOCKPORT – A 5-year-old boy with his father’s wallet and $200 was found wandering the Tops supermarket alone early Saturday, crossing busy South Transit Road to get there, Niagara County sheriff’s deputies said.
The boy, who was found in the store shortly before 9 a.m., told authorities he was there to buy toys for his sister. Deputies said he was unwashed and wearing shoes on the wrong feet, without any socks.
The boy’s mother, meanwhile, who arrived at the store from her nearby home, told investigators she had fallen asleep and learned the boy had gone to the store when she woke up.
Child Protective Services is investigating, deputies said.
