LEWISTON – A man and his wife are both in stable condition in Erie County Medical Center after their car was involved in a head-on crash with a pickup truck at about 10:30 a.m. today on Saunders Settlement Road/Route 31 at Garlow Road. The driver of the pickup was not injured.
State police said the driver of the pickup, Robert Doll, 69, of Lewiston was eastbound on Route 31 when he turned north on Garlow Road and into the path of the oncoming sedan heading west on Route 31 being driven by Robert Triechler, 82, of Sanborn. Nancy Triechler, 78, a passenger in the car, was found unresponsive and not breathing when state troopers arrived.
A trooper was able to remove Mrs. Triechler from the car and establish an airway until emergency medical technicians arrived.
She was taken by Mercy Flight to ECMC with multiple injuries. Her husband was taken by ambulance to ECMC.
Doll was cited for failing to yield.
The Lewiston Fire Department, Town of Lewiston, Town of Niagara Police Departments and the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office responded.
Route 31 from Miller to Kline Road was closed for about two hours due to the crash.
