An anonymous phone caller claiming there were bombs in both Niagara Wheatfield and Niagara Falls high schools Monday morning forced authorities to evacuate Niagara Wheatfield high school and middle school students, while Niagara Falls High School went into a precautionary lockdown.
No injuries were reported, no such explosive devices were found, and both schools had returned to normal schedules by shortly before noon.
Law enforcement officials fielded the anonymous call at about 7:55 a.m. Monday.
Niagara Falls High School went into a precautionary lockdown as a result of the anonymous call, Judie Glaser, community relations director for the Niagara Falls schools, stated in an email.
At Niagara Wheatfield, officials referred to an unspecified “incident” at the school.
“As a precautionary measure, the high school and middle school students were removed from the school and taken ... to the Sanborn Fire Company,” said Marc Kasprzak, senior dispatcher for the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office.
Niagara Wheatfield parents were told, in phone calls to their contact numbers, about the students being taken by school buses to the fire company. School officials emphasized that all students are safe and that they would be returned to school once the buildings have been cleared.
Shortly after 11:30 a.m., Niagara Wheatfield school officials said students were returning to classes.
The Sheriff’s Office, Niagara Falls police and the school districts were working together to investigate the incident.
