LEWISTON – A man who was driving the wrong way on the Niagara Thruway for several miles early Monday morning and then struck a roadside construction crane is facing charges of drunken driving, according to Lewiston Police.

Douglas P. Pytlik Jr., 32, of Linwood Avenue, North Tonawanda, was charged with felony driving while intoxicated and reckless driving.

Lewiston Police said the crash happened at around 3:30 a.m. Monday near the Power Authority. Pytlik’s pickup left Niagara Falls Boulevard and went onto the I-190, traveling northbound in the southbound lane for approximately 4½ miles. Police said his pickup then entered a construction zone and hit several traffic cones before it struck a crane that had been parked along the roadside.

Pytlik was taken to Mount St. Mary’s Hospital, but he was not believed to be seriously hurt, according to police.
