A fifth suspect has been charged as part of a burglary ring that targeted Southtowns homes last year.
All of the suspects are from Buffalo’s Lovejoy neighborhood.
Daniel Lauber, 22, of Gold Street, pleaded not guilty Monday to two counts of second-degree burglary for break-ins May 29 in Concord and June 11 in Marilla and one count of second-degree attempted burglary for trying to break into a home June 11 in Marilla.
State Supreme Court Justice Penny M. Wolfgang ordered Lauber sent back to the Erie County Holding Center, where he has been held since his arrest Jan. 13 on a warrant issued after he was indicted last month.
The four other suspects were arrested June 13 at a store on Route 20A in Marilla, shortly after a woman alerted the Erie County Sheriff’s Office to their suspicious behavior. Lauber was not with them.
Three suspects – Joseph Harden, 19, of North Ogden Street; Jeremy Agosto, 22, of Greene Street; and Ryan Zaskowski, 17, of Davey Street – have pleaded guilty and await sentencing by Wolfgang. The fourth, Sean Guthrie, 20, of East Lovejoy Street, faces trial on four counts of second-degree burglary, two counts of fourth-degree conspiracy to commit burglary and one count of tampering with physical evidence for allegedly telling a girlfriend to hide some of the stolen goods.
The burglary ring drove to secluded homes during the day, knocked on their doors and kicked them in when no one answered, said Assistant District Attorney Paul E. Bonanno. They then stole items and sold them at pawnshops, Bonanno said.
Besides the homes in Concord and Marilla, the ring also targeted homes in Orchard Park, Holland, Wales and Boston, authorities said.
