A Cheektowaga man has been charged with second-degree assault for attacking his girlfriend and severely cutting her finger with a box cutter during a fight at a Buffalo home.

Anthony M. McDougald, 38, of Hoerner Avenue, also was charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon and endangering the welfare of a child when Buffalo police arrested him Saturday.

His girlfriend told police that they were both intoxicated and arguing Friday at a Gilbert Street home when he grabbed the back of her neck and threw her against a toilet, then choked and kicked her. She said she grabbed a box cutter to defend herself as he tried to hit her with a water jug. She said he took the box cutter and tried to slash her face, but she put up her hand, and her middle finger was severely cut.

She then drove McDougald and his son, who witnessed the fight, to his mother’s house on Grey Street.

The girlfriend was later found by state police on the northbound Niagara Thruway and taken to Erie County Medical Center for treatment of her injuries suffered during the fight.
