Fires leave several homeless in Buffalo

Buffalo fire investigators are looking into the cause of two fires early Saturday that left several people homeless.

A two-alarm fire at a Black Rock apartment house forced residents out into the cold, and a fire on Northampton Street left several adults and children without a place to stay.

The fire at 1073 Grant St. spread smoke throughout the 28-unit apartment building and required two additional fire engines and a ladder before it was brought under control. Damage was estimated at $170,000.

The Red Cross, Salvation Army Canteen and Buffalo Fire Department’s Medical Rehab Unit responded to the scene.

The second fire, at 97 Northampton, near Michigan Avenue, caused about $110,000 in damage and left four adults and eight children without a home.

The causes of both fires remains nder investigation.
