A Buffalo man pleaded guilty Friday to first-degree burglary, assault and weapons possession for beating a Proctor Avenue home owner with a crowbar after breaking into his home early in the morning last Sept. 18.

Edmund Bowie, 35, of Curry Walk, pleaded guilty as charged and faces a mandatory minimum prison term of five and up to 25 years when he is sentencing March 3 by State Supreme Court Justice Deborah A. Haendiges.

Erie County District Attorney Frank A. Sedita III said his office will recommend the maximum prison term.

Two years ago Bowie was acquitted by an Erie County Court jury in a violent gunpoint East Side home invasion that terrorized a businessman and his family, even though the victims identified him. That jury was not allowed to hear that Bowie had previously been convicted of an attempted assault in a Buffalo attack. Two other men were convicted and imprisoned.

Bowie is currently behind bars.
