WHEATFIELD – Niagara County sheriff’s deputies patrolling convenience stores, because of a recent high volume of robberies, saw a passenger get out of a car, pick through the outside ashtray, and then leave after removing something outside the 7-Eleven store on Plaza Drive, at 10:40 p.m. Sunday.
Kenneth S. Edwards, 31, of Walmore Road, was charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance after deputies searched him and found several small wax paper folds of heroin in his pockets.
The driver, Brooke R. Miller, 24, of the same address, was not charged. She said she and Edwards were recently accepted into the methadone program and was concerned they may be removed because of the arrest. She said she and Edwards were removing cigarettes from the disposal tray at the store because they could not afford to buy cigarettes.
