KIANTONE – A Jamestown man was arrested on burglary and other charges after a resident found the suspect in his home early Saturday on Busti–Stillwater Road and called the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office.

The resident told deputies he was awakened about 2:30 a.m. by his barking dogs and found the intruder, Steven D. Schrecengost, 19, in his kitchen. The suspect refused to leave but fled when the resident told him deputies were on the way. Deputies from the sheriff’s K-9 unit tracked the suspect to a Norby Road home where they found him hiding in a shed that he had broken into.

Deputies said Schrecengost resisted arrest and kicked the K-9 unit’s dog, Drago, in the nose. The dog bit the suspect who was then placed in a patrol vehicle. Deputies said the suspect kicked the car door, damaging the vehicle.

Schrecengost was further restrained and taken to WCA Hospital for evaluation, then turned over to Jamestown police on existing warrants they had for him. Deputies charged Schrecengost with second- and third-degree burglary, resisting arrest, second-degree criminal trespass, two counts of fourth-degree criminal mischief and two counts of second-degree obstructing governmental administration.
