JAMESTOWN – Thieves may have used a bucket truck to steal wiring from outside box alarms connected to the Jamestown Fire Department.

Jamestown police reported Friday that wiring was stolen from alarms in at least two neighborhoods. They estimate at least 1,000 feet of wiring was taken from poles on Isabella Avenue and Clinton, Lafayette and West 10th streets, with the thieves triggering an alarm that led fire responders to discover the larceny.

Wire also was taken from alarm boxes and poles in the Willard, Benedict and Barrows area of the city.

Jamestown is among a dwindling number of municipalities still using the red alarm boxes, which send a signal notifying fire dispatchers exactly where the alarm was pulled. Anyone who noticed suspicious activity or who has other information that may help in the investigation is asked to call 483-8477 (TIPS).
