Niagara Falls police, aided by officers from four other agencies, teamed up to make one arrest and confiscate drugs and an assault weapon during a pre-dawn raid Friday of three suspected drug houses in the northern end of Niagara Falls.

Officers raided two houses on Niagara Avenue and another on Ontario Avenue, after police made sxeveral undercover drug purchases at the three residences, said Capt. David LeGault of the Niagara Falls Police Narcotics Division. Police claim that cocaine, pills and, more recently, heroin were sold out of the three locations.

The raids, conducted at about 7 a.m., capped a seven-month investigation into drug sales in the area.

The two houses on Niagara Avenue have been the source of multiple complaints from neighbors and block clubs, as the criminal activity led neighbors to be fearful of driving down the street, forcing many of them to take alternate routes to work or wherever they were going, LeGault said.

At one of the Niagara Avenue houses, police confiscated a large amount of cocaine, some heroin and an assault rifle, authorities said. They also arrested Devonte D. Sylvester, 20, of that address, on two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance, according to police reports.

Niagara Falls police were assisted by the Niagara County Sheriff’s Department, North Tonawanda and Town of Tonawanda police and the U.S. Border Patrol helicopter. Several of those departments also used their K-9 dogs during the raids.
