NIAGARA FALLS – Two stores reported damage by someone stealing copper from outside of their businesses.
A store manager for T.J. Maxx in the 7400 block of Niagara Falls Boulevard told police that sometime between 5 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. Monday someone shut down the outside main electric breaker to the trash compactor and cut about 20 feet of copper wiring, valued at $100. Damage was about $500, according to police.
Similar damage was reported at the Niagara Apothecary in the 8700 block of Niagara Falls Boulevard.
The owner said sometime between 3 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. Monday someone cut the electrical service and stole the wiring from an outside air conditioner. A second air conditioner’s copper refrigerant line was cut, likely in an effort to steal the copper, but instead bled the system of all its coolant. Total loss and damage was $1,200.
Police did not say if the two cases were related.
