The $50,000 fire that destroyed a cinder block barn on Bennett Road in the Town of Darien early today remains under investigation by the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office. At about 2;12 a.m. today a passer-by reported the fire at the barn owned by Daniel Miller of Broadway Road in Darien.
Miller used the barn for hay storage, and no animals were in the 100 foot by 70 foot barn which was a total loss. Sheriff’s Office spokesmen said the fire destroyed about 300 round bales of hay worth about $20,000 and the barn itself was worth $30,000. Some miscellaneous farm implements and tires were also destroyed in the fire, the cause of which remains under investigation. Fire departments from Darien, Alexander, East Pembroke, Corfu and Indian Falls were called to the scene.
