New York State Parks Police have identified the man who drowned Saturday evening in Lake Erie off Evangola State Park as Brian J. McCluskey, 32, of Maple Avenue, Blasdell.
Police said McCluskey, who was with several family members, waded into the water in an unguarded area about 7:30 p.m. to swim to a boat anchored offshore. Family members called 911 when he went underwater and failed to resurface after several minutes.
After a search by family members, police and the U.S. Coast Guard, McCluskey was found in several feet of water and pulled to shore, where CPR was administered. He was pronounced dead in Lake Shore Health Care Center, Irving, by Chief Chautauqua County Coroner Warren Riles.
