NORTH TONAWANDA – A North Tonawanda man driving on a conditional license because of four previous alcohol-related offenses was arrested for drunken driving and drug possession early Friday, Niagara County sheriff’s deputies said.
Richard P. Schiro, 46, of Stenzel Avenue, was in possession of two hydrocodone tablets, deputies said, and was charged with driving while intoxicated, first-degree aggravated unlicensed operation and criminal possession of a controlled substance.
Deputies responded to the Nash Road parking lot of Northgate Manor just after 2 a.m. to investigate the report of a suspicious man sleeping at the wheel of a Jeep. Schiro, after being awakened, said the was a bartender at a nearby tavern and was driving home after a night of heavy drinking before deciding he was unable to drive further, deputies said.
