A group that has taken legal action in state court to try to block construction of a boat dock and storage facility in the Niagara Gorge for the Maid of the Mist has taken its fight to federal court.
The Niagara Preservation Coalition, which has lost three times in state court, filed a federal lawsuit in U.S. District Court in the District of Columbia on July 3.
The group has argued that the proper environmental reviews for the project on the gorge site, a portion of the former Schoellkopf Power Station that is on the National Register of Historic Places, were not done.
Attorneys for the Maid of the Mist have successfully sought to have the case transferred to federal court in Buffalo. No further court dates have been scheduled.
