A Chicago Street man captured by Erie County sheriff’s deputies assigned to the Buffalo Operation Strike Force remains in custody on stolen car, reckless endangerment, resisting arrest and other charges, Undersheriff Mark N. Wipperman said today.
Carlos A. Rogers, 19, was finally arrested by deputies Simon Biegasiewicz and Mike Okal on Genesee about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday near Nevada streets after a high-speed car chase that began when the deputies spotted him on Grider Street and their on-board license plate reader set off a “stolen vehicle alarm.”
The deputies said they pulled over Rogers near Sussex Street and as they approached his car, he sped off. He was arrested a short time later on Genesee Street and handcuffed after a brief struggle, Wipperman said.
Rogers was arraigned Wednesday morning in Buffalo City Court and ordered held without bail on charges of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, reckless endangerment, resisting arrest, obstructing governmental administration, reckless driving, operating a vehicle without a valid driver’s license and numerous vehicle and traffic infractions.
Wipperman said Strike Force deputies have made more than 300 arrests on felony and other charges, more than 100 warrant arrests, issued more than 2,500 vehicle and traffic violation summonses and removed or had towed more than 270 illegally operated or registered vehicles from Buffalo streets.
