Town of Tonawanda Councilman Daniel J. Crangle was charged with second-degree harassment and third-degree stalking on Saturday, following a complaint by his wife.
Crangle told The Buffalo News that he has been trying for the past several months to reconcile with his wife, Kit.
“I have 30 years of marriage and I’m trying to work it out, and it’s just not working out,” he said.
In the past two years, Crangle and his wife have both filed domestic complaints with the police – but until this weekend, neither had filed charges against the other.
The Democratic councilman attributed the public release of the charges to his political foes.
“It’s an election year this year. They’re already starting,” he said. “There are people in the police department who don’t like me and what I stand for. There are personal reports that are being leaked by the police department.”
Crangle was arraigned Saturday by Kenmore Village Judge Scott Riordan and released on his own recognizance.
Riodran issued an order of protection directing Crangle to stay away from his wife.
