A Medina man with a long history of working with children was indicted this week on charges he had sex with two 16-year-old boys, and posted nude pictures of them, while he was working as a Medina firefighter last year.
Jeffrey J. Elsenheimer Jr., 32, of East Center Street, pleaded not guilty Monday after an Orleans County grand jury indicted him on 17 felony counts and a dozen misdemeanors charges. He posted $60,000 bail and is scheduled to return to County Court on March 4.
Investigators who examined Elsenheimer’s cellphone last summer found text messages and nude photos of one of the boys that had been sent to Elsenheimer while he was on duty at the Medina fire station, said Joseph F. Sacco, supervising investigator for the Orleans County Major Felony Task Force.
Sacco also said last summer that investigators were told Elsenheimer had performed a sex act on the teen in his village home. Elsenheimer was arrested in late August.
Richard Ferris, legal assistant for Orleans County, said allegations involving a second boy also have come to light since Elsenheimer’s arrest. He said the allegations involved eliciting photos on cellphones and sex with both boys during a six-month period from March to August last year. The second boy also was 16 at the time.
Elsenheimer was indicted on four counts of promoting sexual performance by a child, three counts of possessing a sexual performance by a child, and 10 counts of third-degree criminal sexual act, all felonies, as well as the following misdemeanors: six counts of endangering the welfare of a child, one count of official misconduct, and five counts of third-degree sexual abuse.
Elsenheimer was public information officer for the Medina Fire Department for six years and a part-time Orleans County dispatcher for the 11 years. He was removed from his county job and put on paid administrative leave with the fire department after his arrest.
According to information provided online by Elsenheimer, he worked from 2002 to 2005 as a third-grade teacher in the Kendall Central School District. He was a substitute teacher there, District Attorney Joseph V. Cardone has said.
Elsenheimer also posted online that he had worked as a camp counselor and health director at Camp Kenan in Barker.
Camp Kenan Executive Director Mark Albiez said Elsenheimer first was a young camper at the site and later became a counselor, but he had not worked regularly at the camp since 2003.
