An Erie County Court jury convicted a Buffalo man of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, the Erie County District Attorney’s Office said Tuesday.

Norris Beasley Jr., 54, of Parkridge Road, faces up to 15 years in prison when sentenced on April 2 by Erie County Judge Thomas P. Franczyk.

Police arrested Beasley on Dec. 28, 2011. Police said he threw a .357 Magnum revolver onto a front lawn as he rode a bicycle at 11:30 p.m. on Depew Avenue.

Police said he fit the description of a suspect in recent burglaries in the neighborhood, District Attorney Frank A. Sedita III said in a statement.

The officers saw Beasley throw the revolver onto the front yard after they asked to speak to him, Sedita said.

Assistant District Attorney John P. Gerken Jr. prevailed despite an unsubstantiated defense claim that police illegally stopped Beasley, Sedita said.

Jurors deliberated for less than an hour before returning the guilty verdict, Sedita said.
