NORTH TONAWANDA – A 93-year-old woman was removed this morning from a burning house on Lee Avenue. No injuries were reported.

North Tonawanda Fire Chief John Lapham said the cause of the fire in the 1½- story single-family home remains under investigation.

Lapham said the North Tonawanda Police Department responded to a panic alarm at 779 Lee Avenue at 7:50 a.m. and contacted the fire department when officers saw smoke coming out of the house.

The unidentified woman was evacuated by police and checked out at the scene by Twin City Ambulance. She refused further treatment and told rescuers that she would stay with family.

Lapham said damage to the house and contents was estimated at $30,000.

The North Tonawanda Fire Department was on the scene for 45 minutes.
