NIAGARA FALLS – A teen-ager faces felony assault charges after reportedly hitting a man in the face with the butt end of a rifle and threatening to shoot him early Sunday in the city’s LaSalle section. Police said the assault occurred just before 1 a.m. outside a home in the 1100 block of 90th Street.

The 23-year-old victim drove to the home with his sister and remained in the vehicle while the sister got out and went to the front door, police said. At that point, a man emerged from a side door, entered the vehicle and threatened to shoot the victim, police reported. The assailant hit the man inside the car with the stock of the gun, causing a small cut to his face. The victim also suffered a cut to two fingers defending himself from the attack, police said.

Police were called, and they surrounded the home before taking Shaquan M. Shingledecker, 19, into custody. The Monroe Avenue resident was charged with felony assault.

The attack victim, Christopher R. Stevens, of Linwood Avenue, was treated at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center where he received 12 stitches to close the wounds to his hand. He was later arrested on an outstanding domestic violence warrant, according to reports.

Police did not elaborate on a motive for the attack.
