Amherst police detectives found the suspect in the theft of more than $1,700 worth of vacuum cleaners and other goods from the Sheridan Avenue Walmart store and they didn’t have to look too hard, they announced Wednesday.
The found Chuck Echevarria, 45, in the Erie County Sheriff’s Holding Center.
Police released surveillance video on Tuesday and Echevarria was recognized Holding Center staff and Lancaster police, Amherst officers said.
Police did not say why he already was in the Holding Center but he now has more charges to content with: burglary and possession of stolen property. He is accused of stealing items about midnight Jan. 6 from Walmart Supercenter on Sheridan Drive.
