LOCKPORT – A Niagara Falls man was arraigned Friday in Niagara County Court on charges that he and another man invaded the home of a Falls pawnshop owner Oct. 28 and robbed and injured him.

Robert J. Thornton, 24, of Cleveland Avenue, was jailed in lieu of $5,000 bail set by County Judge Sara Sheldon Farkas after he pleaded not guilty to two counts each of first-degree robbery and first-degree burglary and three counts of second-degree assault.

Monday, co-defendant Edwin K. Ridgeway, 26, of East Avenue, Lockport, pleaded not guilty to the same charges.

Deputy District Attorney Doreen M. Hoffmann said the victim was Ruben G. Longoria, 57, owner of Casino Buy & Sell on Pine Avenue. She said the invaders entered Longoria’s home across the street, armed with a machete and a BB gun. Longoria was gashed in the robbery.

Farkas placed Longoria on five years’ probation Jan. 31 for selling stolen property in his pawnshop.
