LOCKPORT – Cammesoa M. Williams, who prosecutors said fired a gunshot at a Niagara Falls woman after the woman was fatally shot by Williams’ boyfriend, accepted a plea offer Friday in Niagara County Court.
Williams, 43, of Winston-Salem, N.C., pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of attempted second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. She could be sentenced to as long as seven years in prison when she returns before County Judge Matthew J. Murphy III on May 2.
That’s the same day that Williams’ boyfriend, Richard H. Moore, 50, of Winston-Salem, will be sentenced for first-degree manslaughter. He pleaded guilty to that charge last week.
Moore gunned down Tijuana Davis, 39, in the victim’s apartment on North Avenue in Niagara Falls on Sept. 28. Moore and Williams, a Lockport native, were in Niagara Falls to attend a wedding and were expected to stay with Davis, a friend of Williams.
Moore’s attorney, Assistant Public Defender A. Joseph Catalano, said Davis and Williams got into an argument over drugs and money. Moore shot Davis once in the stomach.
Williams’ subsequent shot missed the victim.
Murphy agreed to Assistant District Attorney Cheryl L. Nichols’ request that Williams have no contact with Davis’ family as a condition of remaining free on $5,000 bail.
Defense attorney Herbert L. Greenman said Williams spoke to Davis’ daughter, expressing regrets. “This has weighed very heavily on her,” Greenman said of Williams.
Williams volunteered information about her relationship with the victim’s daughter, telling the judge, “I helped raise her from a little kid. She still calls me Mom.”
