PENDLETON – A man driving a stolen car rear-ended a Modern Disposal garbage truck Thursday afternoon on Lockport Road in the Town of Pendleton.
Police said Dakota Hewitt, 19, of Lockport, was arrested for driving while ability impaired by drugs and alcohol, following too closely and driving without a license. He also was charged with criminal possession of stolen property in the fourth degree, a felony. Hewitt was remanded to Niagara County Jail on $750 bail.
His passenger, Donathan Alston, 42, of Lockport, was charged with criminal possession of stolen property in the fourth degree and was remanded to Niagara County Jail on $100 bail.
The car had been reported stolen earlier in the day in the City of Lockport. No injuries were reported in the crash.
The crash happened after 12:30 p.m. in an eastbound lane on Lockport Road at the intersection of Campbell Boulevard as the garbage truck was stopped for a red light. The driver of the garbage truck was not injured or charged in the crash.,
A number of police patrol cars were called to the scene when it was discovered that the vehicle, a 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier, had been reported stolen from Webb Street in Lockport at 7:45 a.m.
Lockport Police also are investigating after several items found in the car were believed to have been stolen in Lockport. Further charges may be pending, according to the Niagara County Sheriff Department.
