LITTLE VALLEY – The arrest of three men and a woman on stolen check charges following a three-week investigation was announced Wednesday by State Police. The investigation began when a woman living in Freedom reported that several of her checks had been stolen and cashed recently in Franklinville.
Arrested were:
• Matthew G. Ballaus, 21, of Franklinville who is being held at the Cattaraugus County Jail on charges of second-degree forgery and criminal possession of a forged instrument in the second-degree.
• Stephen H. Frank IV, 21, also of Franklinville, who is being held on charges of petit larceny, second-degree forgery and criminal possession of a forged instrument in the second-degree.
• Matthew L. Grimes Jr., 20, of Salamanca, who was released without bail after he was arraigned in Machias Town Court on charges of second-degree forgery and criminal possession of a forged instrument in the second degree.
• Katherine M. Loomis, 25, of Franklinville, who posted bailed after her Franklinville Town Court arraignment on charges of second-degree forgery and criminal possession of a forged instrument in the second degree.
